Airwolf is a fictional helicopter used in an old American TV series named “Airwolf”. It actually came from the helicopter model Bell 222 modified and designed to have a stratospheric ceiling, stealth, variety of weapons, and many more.

A real Bell 222 is actually a twin turbo-shaft helicopter that is produced for the civilian market and typically employed for corporate, emergency medical, or utility transport missions, with seating for up to 10 people.

Airwolf was actually sold after the TV series to a German company however, it crashed while operating as an air ambulance on June 6, 1992.

If you are looking for a helicopter that is actually part of a TV series, this is a good one for you. Plus, after it crashed, there was a replica made from it and it was sold for $250 Million which is currently in Bel Air, California. That even if this helicopter doesn’t exist anymore, the fame it once has and always has, will definitely stay. This is a good pic if you want this model for yourself.

Please do note that this is not a diecast model, it is a plastic model but it really looks good and I really want to include Airwolf in this list as you can see, it is just unique and I just can’t exclude it simply because it currently doesn’t have any diecast model in the market.

This helicopter was the first turbine-powered helicopter to enter production in 1960, with around 16,000 units built. It was one of the most successful Helicopters in the industry in quantity. Pilots are also said to love this aircraft which the description is given ” The airship everybody lusted to fly.”

UH-1 Huey was originally made as an air ambulance but it was further needed to be upgraded. It was later armed with M60 machine guns and rockets and became America’s first gunship.

Among Huey’s greatest strengths was its versatility. It was used as a troop transporter, for close air support, and for medical evacuation. It was used the most in the Vietnam war with 7,000 deployments.

With so much history and success behind this helicopter, this is a very great choice for collectors, I also want to note that this is the biggest model in this list as a 1:24 scale model. In addition, its popularity can’t forgo as this is one of the helicopters that left its users in awe.

The Bell AH-1S came from the Bell UH-1 Iroquois which makes it part of the Huey family. It has the nickname of Cobra or Snake.

AH-1 was the backbone of the US Army’s first attack fleet which has now been replaced by AH-64 Apache.

Since it has been replaced by the AH-64 Apache, the surplus AH-1s are currently not used as an attack fleet, it has now been converted to fight forest fires.

Upgraded versions of the AH-1 are still being used by the military in some countries, and the twin-engine type of AH-1 is still in service in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) as an attack helicopter.

With its history being the legacy of the US Army’s first attack fleet, this helicopter has left a mark in its history. Even if it is not used today, if vintage helicopters are your thing, this is perfect for your collection. The Legacy it leaves is just simply amazing for us not to include this aircraft on this list. Feel free to add AH-1 to your collection if you want it. You will surely not regret having this model.

Sikorsky UH-60 was named after the Native American war leader Black Hawk, the UH-60A entered service with the U.S. Army in 1979, after that, further new models were produced such as UH-60L or UH-60M. In addition to Army use, these UH-60 families of helicopters were exported to several nations.

This helicopter was used by the elite team of United States Navy Seals, which entered into the Pakistani Airspace without being noticed, and then executed the raid, which ultimately killed Osama Bin Laden. Making a stunt that has never been witnessed before by the world. And, definitely, it would have been impossible if the aircraft used by the Navy Seals in the raid were just normal helicopters. It was clearly the beauty of the Sikorsky Stealth UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.

That is an overwhelming achievement and because of that, UH-60 has made it into the list. This has made a great milestone that surely a simple helicopter can’t possibly do. If you wish to have this into your collection, you surely made a great choice! An amazing one indeed. Its achievement alone made it a very impressive aircraft.

An Aircraft

An aircraft is any type of man-made object or machine that is able to by gaining the support of air. It counters gravity by airlift using the dynamic lift, jet engine, rocket engine or propeller. Common examples of aircraft are airplanes, helicopters, airships, jet engine aircraft, or hot air balloons. There are many types of aircraft based on their use namely: Military, Civil, Experimental, and Model. Each of them has a different purpose and is very fun to study. That’s why it is fun reading such information all over the internet.

A Helicopter

A helicopter is an example of a rotary-winged aircraft that flies using the lift and thrust supplied by its rotor, which allows them to fly vertically, to hover, forward, backward, and laterally which most fixed-wing aircraft can’t do. It came from the French word hélicoptère, which is from 2 Greek words “helix” which means spiral, and “pteron” which means wing.

Other names of helicopters include Chopper, heli, copter, and whirlybird.

History of Helicopter

The first design of Helicopters actually originated from China in the 4th century AD in a book named “Baopuzi” where children use bamboo copter toys, and as the copter rotates, their toys will fly. Its design was later displayed in the Renaissance paintings in the early 18th and the 19th century where scientists started to develop the first flying machine based on these toy designs of the early Chinese.

The first operational helicopter was produced in 1936, it is named FW-61. Mass production of helicopters was made in 1942 with 131 units of this aircraft were built

These Helicopters are great to use in congested and small areas because it can fly vertically and can hover on a different side in an easy manner and as we can see, they are very famous today as we always see them in the air flying.

This machine has gone on a long journey, from the children in china to us right now. It surely has a lot of innovations that made it what it is right now, from Leonardo Da Vinci’s aerial screw model to our time. There surely is a lot of different helicopter models for us to choose from.

In this article, I had made the best picks on the helicopter models out there for your convenience, and feel free to choose the best one for you.

Considerations in Buying

To help you in choosing, I have placed here some considerations you need to consider and we are going to tackle them up in my picks below.

We need to consider the following in buying a diecast model

  • Quality – Most of the models we chose were helicopter die-cast models because they are made with metals. These metals will bring great tensile strength and will ensure that what you are buying will last a long or even a lifetime with proper care.
  • Design – The aircraft’s design in itself. Is it the design that you just can’t resist when you see it? This is actually one of the most important aspect for some people in buying a diecast model for display purpose.
  • Name – Did it made an impact in the aviation industry? Is it named for someone important? We will definitely use this criteria in choosing the best model for you.
  • History – the history of the aircraft itself, did it have any significant impact in the industry? or did the aircraft make a huge impact of its company’s history? These things are difficult to forgo in buying because these aircraft are just amazing.
  • Emotion – Is it the aircraft that you usually get emotional with? We just can’t help it right? We just want to get one too. You want to have it so bad and you can’t wait to display it in your home. In buying, emotion is actually one of the forgotten factors in buying this model.
  • Achievements – If it had won an award or a milestone, any special mention of these will greatly ease our minds in choosing.

I have put all of these into consideration and I am proud to introduce my top picks on the best airbus diecast models that you may choose from.
